If you consider yourself a good artist and like most artists struggle to find work then why not set yourself up freelance and sell tattoo designs to tattoo studios? The tattoo industry is always booming and shops are always looking for new designs to hang on their walls. If your a good artist then you will easily make money creating tattoo designs. Below I will go into some detail on how to create tattoo flash sets that sell.

First of all the thing to remember about tattoo designs is that they are known in the industry as ‘Tattoo Flash’ this is a series of designs on a sheet. Typically the sheets are 11 x 14 inches or 11 x 17 inches and feature between 3 and 12 designs per sheet. The more designs you can put on a sheet the better, because the buyer will think they are getting a better deal for their money as opposed to offering flash sheets with just a couple of designs per sheet.

When creating tattoo flash sets you need to also create stencils that match the designs. You will sell a lot more sets if you offer the line drawings too. The amount of sheets you offer in a set is entirely up to you but typically they come in 5 sheet sets or 10 sheets per set. Again the more sheets you have to offer the more money you will make.

You should also think about the weight of paper you will be printing on. Typically flash sheets are printed on 67lb card stock, the heavier the paper the better. And if you can get them laminated you will sell even more, but again this is up to you and is not necessary.

The other thing to keep in mind when creating flash sets is to make sure you stick with a different theme for each set you create. For example you could create a tribal set, an animal set, and a set of star designs. But again, this is not necessary but can help you to sell more and in time, if your work is good enough you will generate repeat customers who will buy from you every time you knock out a new set.
