Methods for Removing Tattoo Ink

Laser Removal

So far, laser removal is considered as the most effective method of removing tattoo ink. But there is no guarantee that the tattoo will be removed completely with this process. The technique of removing tattoo with laser is quite simple. Light rays are thrown on the tattooed skin, which disintegrates the ink pigments. Then the white cells in the body carry away these pigments out of the body. Q-switched Nd:Yag, Q-switched Alexandrite and the Q-switched Ruby are some of the frequently used lasers for tattoo removal. Remember laser tattoo removal is not a job of a single day and you will require more than one session for complete removal of tattoo.

Moreover, the result of laser method depends upon the type of colors used in the tattoo. Colors like black are very easy to remove since they absorb all type of light rays. However, other colors like green, blue, red, etc. are removed only by certain light rays. Like the red color is removed effectively by green laser light, while blue and green are removed by red laser light. Laser tattoo removal can show side effects like scarring and scabbing of the treated skin. Moreover laser tattoo removal is quite costly and you will have to pay for every session.

Dermabrasion is a very painful tattoo removal process, where the tattooed skin is literally sanded. In this method, the tattooed skin is anesthetized and then the skin is sloughed away either with a sandpaper, salt or caustic soda. Sometime a rotary equipment with sharp edged wheels is also used to peel off the skin. Such tattoo removal method is not recommended for tattoo carved on face and other sensitive parts of the body. Tattoos that have been inked long time ago are usually not removed by this method, since the ink pigments might have migrated deeper into skin and cannot be removed easily.

Immediate dressing of the treated area is necessary, because bleeding and scarring is obvious. The scarring on the skin heals very slowly and may take several months. The treated skin is prone to infection and one has to take proper care. Moreover the pain experienced after this process is more than the pain experienced during tattooing. Salabrasion is a form of dermabrasion, which was basically used in ancient period. In this method, a piece of cloth is dipped in salt and rubbed vigorously on the tattooed skin until the skin becomes red and the ink peels off.

Excision is one more effective tattoo removal method, specially for small-sized tattoos. In this method, the tattooed skin is completely removed by surgical methods. This tattoo removal is done by a dermatologic surgeon by numbing the tattooed skin. The surgeon removes the first and second layer of the skin and then stitches back the wound. This procedure works well for small tattoos. But if the tattoo is large, then the surgeon will have to graft skin from other part of the body and implant it in on the wound. Large tattoo removal by this method requires more than one session. This process of removal of tattoo ink is quite easy and safe and works best if you want to get rid of small-sized tattoos.

Tattoo Removal Cream

If you want to go for an inexpensive method of tattoo removal, then you can go for tattoo removal creams. Moreover, you do not require help of a professional for this tattoo removal method. All you need to do is simply apply the cream topically over the tattooed area. The ingredients of the cream draw the tattoo ink to the surface and the ink eventually fades away. However this method can take several months and the result is not guaranteed.

Whichever may be the method used for removing the tattoo, the results depend on how the tattoo was carved. Tattoos sculpted by expert tattoo artists are easy to remove, because they ink the tattoo such that the tattoo ink spreads evenly through the skin layers. This makes the tattoo removal easy, while a tattoo with uneven spreading of ink is difficult to remove. Moreover, even the quality and color of the ink used for tattooing also decides the results of tattoo removal.

This was a summary on various tattoo ink removal methods. So, if you want to get rid of your tattoo, make a good search of all the tattoo removal methods and go for the method that fulfills your needs and gives best result. All the Best!
