Many people know that art is a way of expressing artistic ability as well as individuality. But what if individuals decide to express this art ability on his/her body. Everyone knows that this is a form of body art. Some of it is known as henna.
The majority of people do not know that henna have existed for over a thousand years. Here is a brief history. In the beginning, it was practiced mainly in countries such as India, in most North African regions, and portions of the Middle East. For example, the Egyptian people were one of the first cultures to accept this form of body art. Henna is made from ground leaves that are dried, which creates a dye that becomes colorfast in shadings ranging from a very light brown to dark russet red. It is also used as a hair dye.
I have seen henna art the most in the Indian culture. It is mainly used in ceremonies, such as a wedding. On the day prior to the big day, the bride-to-be’s hands and feet are painted with the henna dye and the menhdi designs are created. During the wedding party, she is honored-this way the henna represents idol status. Until the henna dye stains completely leave, the bride is not permitted to conduct any work duties. This is a really big honor!
Guess what? According to people in the Middle East, the Arabs refuse to give out their hand if they are lying. Besides that, henna is used in painting the brides. It represents good luck in locations such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Henna art comes in many different forms in different parts of the world. Here are a few of these examples:
In the case of African designs, it has a very distinctive appearance and the designs demonstrate less complexity than the Indian or menhdi designs. The Indian or menhdi designs tend to be flower-like figures.
Celtic designs are generally on the spiritual and magical perspective and tend to have personal and profound meanings with many individuals. But in terms of the designs, it has a great deal of complexity. Therefore, this is harder to achieve in henna, but it can be accomplished.
By far, the designs that are most requested in henna are the Japanese and Chinese art. These are my favorite types of henna art. Western countries, such as the United States that are practicing henna use these artworks. Among the popular henna artwork is the Yin Yang sign
As a designer, I have incorporated much henna art in to my work. Doing artwork using henna really adds enhancement. But on a wider scale, I have known many artists and designers who are influenced by the use of henna from across the globe and incorporated it in his/her own line of work. This is what we do best!
